May Day

May Day also known as International Worker’s Day, the occasion celebrates the contribution of workers to society. It also commemorates the achievements of the historic labour movement. The first Labour Day in India was celebrated in Chennai in 1923 by the Hindustan Labour Kisan Party. Malayapuram Singaravelu Chettiar, a communist leader, advocated that May 1^st be designated a national holiday to recognize workers’ efforts. May Day is a public holiday celebrated on May 1^st in many different cultures around the world.
